The Power of Choices

Foreword by Venkat
Our experience to a large extent is determined by our choices. Right from the choice of friends, choice of career to choices in food. To choose a specific flavor of ice cream is by one’s sense organ, to choose the amount of it is by one’s knowledge of good nutrition and to choose the occasion or company to have it with is by one’s wisdom. Thus our choices change based on our preference, need, capacity, awareness, knowledge and wisdom. At times it is hard to see that we do have a choice in some situations because either we are not willing to explore enough or are limited by our perceptions on what is allowed in a situation or a culture. Regardless of these apparent limitations and the various determining factors for our choices, there is a lot of value and sense in using our discretion to consciously put an effort and choose what works best for us.

In this short yet thought provoking writing by Sanjeevini, she elaborates on the important role choices play in our life. She persuades well in her cogent and well laid out thoughts on the need to time and choose the choices wisely for our best life-experience.

In Sanjeevini’s
succinct message, “Making a choice is totally worth it”. Discover the wisdom behind it in this wonderful article!

An engineering student, studying in Cambridge Institute of Technology, Bangalore, trying my best to explore different dimensions of life through technology and writing!

I am a passionate writer. I believe that we all have the power to touch lives and even change them. We can do it our way. As for me, I see writing as a means to achieve this. There’s something about writing that enchants me. I try my best to keep the air around me inspiring and positive. So, I’m just a passionate writer trying to spread positivity to inspire those around me and find life’s true essence.

The Power of Choices

How many of us would disagree if I had to say that the world is run by choices? A handful of us, maybe? Why is it so? There’s nothing external about this, we are inherently cognizant of the fact that choices matter. Far from being a mere ‘yes’ or ‘no’, choices encompass decision, analysis, experience, circumstances and results. The cosmos is run by choices.

From plumping for an outfit to building a career, choices are inevitable. Making choices happens to be the most perennial task of our lives. Every day, every moment, we are constantly making choices, some voluntary, while others, most of them in fact, involuntary. Should I wake up to the alarm or snooze it? Should I skip breakfast? Should I open up? Should I discuss this with him? Should I start? Should I stop? Who should know this? Is this the job I need? The list goes on. Despite this knowledge, how much do we value our own choices? How much effort must go into making them? Why invest this effort? The discretion to make the right choice transforms an ordinary life into an extraordinary one. ‘Go with the flow’ fails the moment the flow is disrupted. Your choice then becomes your only savior.

A choice can render the worst into the best and vice versa too. So, just be mindful of your choices. Avoid haste, guided by external influence and fear. Sometimes, choices become expensive. You might have to let go, toil hard or even tear up. But its only the price you can afford if you know your choice is right. Stand with your choices, fight for them, pay any price! Choose what you need, not what your circumstances or the crowd around you needs. Often times, decisions once made are irreversible. This can prove disastrous if a choice has failed. The time you take for making a choice is totally worth it. It avoids unnecessary trouble and saves all the hassle and time that these troubles cause you. So, dare to make choices. Remember, all the boons we know were birthed by choices!
